Number 27 : Rustik Bistro

Classed as a European Bistro, Rustik is a pleasant bar/restaurant on Linnegatan.  The decor inside was stylish and uncluttered and even the wooden tables were branded with the restaurants logo. It is obvious that a lot of thought and planning had gone in to how this restaurant should look and it didn't disappoint.

The menu was fresh and varied and the food I ordered was well presented and full of taste. The menu also boasted a wide selection of beers and wines. One side of the restaurant is also a bar area so it is possible to sit down for a pre-drink first before being seated for your meal. This helped to contribute to a relaxed atmosphere, even though Rustik is probably a more exclusive place to eat than many of the other establishments I have tried. The service was efficient and polite and the food came in good time.

All in all a very enjoyable meal. A perfect place to go if you are looking for that something extra in a small and cosy setting.

Number 26 : Trattoria Da Pasquale

In this day and age you can find a pizzeria on nearly every street corner. The quality however  ranges from good to bad and the means of making them differ widely. Trattoria Da Pasquale provides genuine Italian food in an authentic environment with a focus on speciality pizzas. Recommend to me by a friend, I thought that I would give it a try.

The pizza was good and came brimming with lots of fresh ingredients on top. My biggest complaint I normally have when I eat pizza is that the dough can be wet but here I had no such problems. I sat outside on a lovely veranda surrounded by flowers and sipped wine in the sunshine. The inside of the restaurant reminded me of one of those Italian-American restaurants you see in gangster films and it seemed simple and cosy. An Italian TV channel broadcasting in the background gave it that extra touch...

The menu offered a range of Italian dishes. The price was ok although the starters and deserts seemed a bit pricey. The service was efficient and fast. If you are looking for a good pizza and and also want to spend a few hours eating and drinking (rather than the rushed pace of many pizza places) then I can recommend coming here.

Number 25 : Berzelius bar & matsal

This is a place I have passed by many times on my way towards Liseberg. I have always been attracted by the outdoor serving area and many an afternoon I have gone by to see people casually drinking and eating in the sun after a long day at work.

Upon visiting I was very impressed. Both the outdoor and the indoor eating areas were very elaborately done and it was clear that a lot of attention was put down even to the smallest of details. The waiters and waitresses were all dressed smartly and acted accordingly. I found I received a very good and professional dining experience for a very reasonable price.

The food served was a blend of different Swedish traditional dishes with a strong input from the Gothenburg region. There was also a Tapas section as well. The menu was varied but also not excessive meaning it was easy to find something you like without getting lost in pages of different choices. I went for a vegetarian lasagne and was more than impressed.

The clientele tended to be towards the older generation. This is the kind of place I would be more than happy to bring my parents looking for an authentic taste of Swedish cuisine, or even business associates. At the same time though it was also very relaxed and friendly, all in all a nice mix.

Number 24 : Kinesiska Muren

Sweden's oldest Chinese restaurant, situated by the water in a building that probably once stood proudly overlooking the sea greeting the boats as they arrive in to Göteborg.  Now the building stands alone surrounded by car-parks, a fading glory from Göteborg's past.

The restaurant was authentically decorated and would have been very nice apart from one thing which really detracted from the experience.... this being green and white tablecloths with a big piece of see-through plastic on top. No doubt the plastic cover makes for easier cleaning but sadly it made me feel like I was eating in a preschool.

The menu was extremely large and in all honesty there was too many things to choose from. I could have spent a long time going through the different dishes. It is nice to have choice but sometimes too much can be a bad thing. The food itself was bland and didn't have much taste. The service was polite but nothing special and in the time I was there I was waited by 3 different people and probably exchanged about 2 sentences with each of them.

This restaurant I feel could have a lot of potential, sadly I left disappointed though.

Number 23 : Berså Burger Joint

Although Berså has been around for a while, the Burger Joint is newly opened this summer and promises real American burgers and tastes. The cities first real American hamburger place...

With all the hype and the talk I was expecting something quite special. What I received though I found to be very average. I found the burger to be quite soggy (wet) and it broke to bits in my hand when I tried to hold it meaning that I had to end up eating it with a knife and fork. The chips were undercooked in placed and aside from that there wasn't really much else in my little basket aside from a tub of dressing.

The service was laid back and friendly which is always a plus. The restaurant itself was in the covered outdoor area of what is normally a night club, and although it was nice sitting "al fresco" it did feel exactly as it was... tables and chairs set out temporarily on a dance floor.

Number 22 : Wasabi Sushi och Bistro

Centrally located, Wasabi Sushi och Bistro is a Sushi restaurant that also has Asian dishes on it's menu.

Lazy afternoon looking out on to Kungstorget
This restaurant is more of a fast food place than somewhere that you would stop for a long meal. The thing that mainly attracted me as I passed by was the outside seating on Kungstorget. The indoors was also quiet pleasant if you compare to many other sushi places in the city.

Nicely presented, lacked a bit in taste though
As for the sushi itself, I was not so enthused by the taste although the presentation I thought was very well done. I tend to rate sushi as either "great", "ok" or "bad".... this sushi ranked as "ok".  I probably wouldn't hurry back here for the sushi but I would go back for another lazy afternoon sitting in the sun.

Number 21 : Toscana

Sometimes it is nice just to go to a place and have simple, well cooked food, a place where you can feel relaxed and leave content with the feeling that you have had good value for your money. With two of my favourite Italian restaurants just over the road, this area of Kungsgatan seems to be a bit of a "little Italy" in the heart of Göteborg. I am pleased to say that Toscana, as with the other 2 restaurants, was unique and more than stood out on its own merit.

The menu by accounts seems to change and vary according to the season. The food they claim is cooked based on authentic Italian recipes and cooked by Italian people. The food was fresh and well prepared and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. The interiror was charming and quaint and had a warm Italian feeling. We chose to sit outside, which was nice although to be honest a bit cramped.

The food was served with bread and a complimentary soup and was extremely tasty. Like I said, it was simple and good but it was definitely a lunch that I enjoyed.
